| Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) is the recording of anomalous sounds or voices using audio recording equipment. Usually these sounds are not audible at the time of recording. Standard tape recorders and video cameras are often used to capture these strange sounds. Currently, researchers are experimenting successfully with PCs as a way to capture EVP | ![]() |

| letme.wav was captured during an investigation in Summit, NJ. Al was logging his activities into his tape recorder as he usually does. As he was looking for a place to hide his tape recorder before a psychic arrived to read the house. He was alone at the time. Al always hides his tape recorder so as not to tip the psychics off. "I had just finished saying out loud, 'I'm looking for a place to hide this tape recorder so the psychic doesn't see it' when a male voice is heard saying 'Ahh, why don't you let me do it?'. The voice was played for the daughters of the previous homeowners, who had both died in the past year. One daughter recognized it as her late father's voice, the other daughter hesitated identifying the voice but did say that it was something he would have said, being he was a very impatient man in life. This file is looped three times. | ||||
| upstairs.wav and baby.wav were recorded during an investigation in Piscataway, NJ. "A two year old girl seemed to be a conduit for two drastically different entities," explains Al. "The dominant entity was a male who tended to frighten the child considerably. The secondary entity was a female figure who seemed to be trying to protect the child and the family by warning them of the male spirits presence. About mid-way through the eight minute session a loud clear female voice is heard screaming out a warning to us. Listen as the female entity forewarns us of the approaching male entity by yelling 'he's coming upstairs'. Al also got the male entity responding to one of his statements. "In a voice very deep and very sinister sounding, this male entity demands 'the baby is staying'." Both files are looped three times. | ||||
| More EVP from assorted investigations: robbers.wav was recorded at an investigation in Metuchen, NJ in the Spring of 1997. Al explains, "I was interviewing the women who lived there and her two daughters. At one point, I asked each of them if they felt the prescence was male or female. The second daughter said male. About five minutes later, I have a male voice on tape clarifying things." Here's the setup: Mother/Homeowner:"Ya, but she did say that she was the one that solved everything..." (Various Noises) |
||||
| TAP-TAP-TAP) Whispered Voice:"It's a male...Damn robbers." "The entity answered my question and added a comment. I questioned the homeowner about a burglary at her house. She was shocked and said yes, right when she was moving in a few years earlier the house was broken into and robbed. The tape of the interview and voices were given to the Metuchen police department." |

| please.wav was captured while Al was on an investigation for "Sightings" ("The House of Plenty - Parts 1&2") in Maryland. "I was taping with a TV on between stations for "white noise" and to elevate EMFs," explains Al. "A male voice is heard begging 'please, please' after I made a statement about changing the channel on the TV. The house was a plantation complete with slaves in the 1800's. The room I was recording in was a second floor bedroom where the occupant, a young girl, had felt someone get into bed with her as a comforting type of gesture." | ||||
| All three of the sounds below were recorded by Garrett Husveth on 8/2/97 at an investigation in Hardyston, NJ. They are large files and may take a few moments to download. The quality is not great being that he inadvertently caught the sounds on a microcassette recorder while conducting interviews. Nothing was heard at the time of recording. You may read about the investigation here. | ||||
| growl.wav (170K) was recorded while talking to the male homeowner. There is a baby girl, the daughter of the homeowners, crying in the background and you can hear Garrett and the male homeowner talking underneath the growling. Also, notice that right after the growl and right before the scream at the end of the sample is an "Exorcist" sounding moan for a split second. It is not known if the scream at the end of the sample is the child or not. If you listen right before, during and after the sample the child sounds far away. The scream at the end is as if the sound is right in the mic of the cassette recorder. Until we feel certain one way or another we will have to assume that the scream was coming from the baby. | ||||
| growl2.wav (141K) is fainter than the other sounds and was recorded about two minutes before the above sound. The neighbor and the female homeowner were discussing how big their children were getting. The neighbor says something like "look how big is that dude", then the growling starts in the background while the male homeowner tells Gary "I just don't want to see shit hovering, man" and Garrett gives him a reassuring "naaa." Then the homeowners' son can be heard saying "daddy, daddy" (the child was not alarmed, he was simply trying to get his father's attention). | ||||
| shout.wav (302K) was recorded
about twenty minutes before the growling sounds above. This was recorded while
interviewing the homeowners and their neighbor. The neighbor is explaining how she just
"passed it off", speaking about an incident where her 4-month-old was motioning
and laughing at something in the air. After she says "passed it off" you hear 3
loud noises followed by the homeowner saying "you never know". Notice that the
beginning part of "You never know" is cut off by these loud noises. We think the
sounds may be words are working on getting some high end recording equipment and software
to isolate and enhance the recording. |

| Talking Walls - Part 1 & Talking Walls - Part 2 Ever wonder what would happen if you sent 20,000 volts of electricity through a 600 year old stone building? Listen for yourself as a chemical and an electrical engineer juice the stone walls of The Prince of Wales Pub in - you guessed it - Wales. Includes sounds, voices, organ music, plus radio interviews and the personal notes and observations of the two scientists involved. Some of the strangest sounds we've ever heard. This tape was sent to Al Rauber by a group called COULDI, which we believe is from the Midwest. The first 10 minutes or so are difficult to hear but after that the sound quality is quite good, so please be patient. Run time is about 60 minutes. | ||||
| This next voice, cold.wav (307K), is from the Cranbury Inn in Cranbury, NJ. "I was doing an EVP session in a room believed to be haunted by a former occupant, Miss Mac", states Al Rauber. Miss Mac appeared one day at the hotel, seemingly a vagrant in need of a place to stay. Not knowing who she was or where she came from, the owners gave her a room free of charge where she lived for over 20 years until her death! | ||||
| Al conducted several investigations at the inn. The day he captured this voice he was "sitting with the owner, Gay Ingennieri, and just throwing questions out. On listening to the tape that night, there is a voice saying: I'm really cold! The owner nearly flipped out on hearing this message. Miss Mac, the former occupant of that very room for over 20 years who we believe is haunting this area of the building was known for always complaining about how cold she was in that room. We believe we captured the haunting spirit of Miss Mac." | ||||
| You'll
hear music playing over the inn's intercom system. Listen and you can hear a female's
voice complaining "I'm really cold!" in the background. The sample is looped
three times at various sound volumes. As it turns out, Miss Mac was a multi-millonaire from Philadelphia who wandered off and and spent her remaining years at the Cranbury Inn! |

| The following EVP files were provided to us by Orlando Ferrante. Orlando is a friend and paranormal investigator in Connecticut. These are excellent examples of voices caught on VIDEO tape during an investigation in Connecticut of a reportedly haunted apartment. Nothing was heard at the time of recording. | ||||
| just over your head.wav (1.42M) or just over your head.ra (33K) is a disemodied voice that appeared on video tape while on an investigation of an apartment in Connecticut. The room was in total darkness. There were three of us in the room and I was taking still photos. At the time the voice appears on the tape I noticed a pin light hovering in the air and snapped a photo, then I'm whispering to a co-investigator about the pin light I saw. You will hear the voice and then hear me whispering almost on top of the voice. I played back the video on my VCR and freeze framed every flash I took to see if something would show up. Something did! At the time of the flash, I captured this psychic energy which was transparent white over our heads. This is how I found the voice. Right after the flash you can hear it say...."(moan) I'm just over your head". | ||||
| all that's left.wav (1.03M) was recorded about three minutes before the first voice on the VHS tape and was not discovered until about a year later. It sounds like "(moan)...I'm all that's left". | ||||
